It’s time —back to the grind! Winter break is over, and it’s time to trade sweatpants for lesson plans. If you’re feeling a little rusty, you’re not alone. Ease back into routines, and give yourself (and your students) some grace.
Start by reconnecting with your students —inquire about their break and share a laugh. It sets the tone and reminds them (and you) that relationships come first. Building strong relationships isn’t just about creating a warm environment; it’s the foundation of effective classroom management. When students feel seen and valued, they’re more likely to engage, participate, and respect teacher expectations.
Don’t forget about yourself, though. Set boundaries now, take breaks, and don’t let work take over your life.
This is a fresh start. Try something new, bring some energy, and remember why you do this. The work may seem tough at times, but it’s worth it. After all, it's "heartwork". Let’s make this semester great!
