Our sons and daughters should know that they are more than a filter

I am guilty. I am guilty of the “filtered photo”. However, I have grown beyond that. In a world ruled by the pressures to look a certain way, it is not complicated to understand why young boys and girls are affected. So, who’s at fault? Is it social media, is it society, is it the culture of skinny torsos, pointy noses and plump lips? No one construct is the blame, however, all three contribute to this culture that self worth is connected to body image.
Consider this: Perhaps the solution to this is to teach our children early in life to embrace their individual uniqueness, their individual beauty. Perhaps we should teach our children that every human is different in the eyes of God but those differences are what make us uniquely special. I resolve to do the latter. Join me in gracefully encouraging and empowering every young boy and girl that you come into contact with, with words of positivity. Speak an empowering word into the lives of our young children as the years of youth are the most impressionable years.
